While looking for something to draw I found myself on a dirt road less than 12 miles from my home looking at the most interesting of scenes’. This was something I had wanted to do for a long time.
I parked my truck and went to the house, knocked on the porch and waited. Soon the door opened some 10 to 12 inches and the little lady asked, “What for you now?” At that I felt some concern in her heart. I introduced myself stating that I wanted her to know who was across from her house and that I would be drawing a picture of her home. A long minute passed and she replied “You ain’t got much to do.” I laughed and she smiled knowing that she had zinged me good. From that point on Ms Adair and I got along well.
I framed a copy with the clothes colored as I had seen them the day I met Ms Adair. The sun shining through her wash and the wind moving it ever so slightly had set my heart on doing this picture. When hanging her picture I found the inside walls covered with cardboard and calendars. She was ever so proud of this picture, as I hung it her comment was “My, my, ain’t that nice.
Some years later I went by to see what I could see and the house was gone. I never did find out what happened, but as you can see it was on the way down.
